Elder Law and Advocacy in May
The attorneys and staff of Christenson Johnson, LLC promote Older Americans Month and Elder Law Month in May, along with Aging Advocacy Day on May 17. Attorneys Iris Christenson, Mark Johnson, and Barbara Hughes assist older adults, people with special needs, and their families with legal services and advocacy.
Here are a few examples of how we advocate for our clients.
- Services advocacy—Mark Johnson worked with a client to optimize the services provided through his skilled nursing facility related to his personal care, meals, and family input. We can help your voice be heard in dealing with healthcare providers, housing facilities, and financial institutions.
- Agencies advocacy—Iris Christenson represented her client in an administrative hearing to challenge the county’s reduction of Medicaid benefits for in-home care. Contact us for help navigating and advocating within state and county agencies that provide care and assistance for those who are elderly and disabled.
- Court-room advocacy—Mark Johnson helped a client preserve her autonomy by having a guardianship dismissed when less-restrictive arrangements were already in place. The attorneys at Christenson Johnson can advocate for you before a court commissioner or judge in matters related to guardianship, trusts, and powers of attorney.
- Legislative advocacy—Barbara Hughes worked with her Congress member and the ARC-Dane County to promote and pass the Special Needs Fairness Act to expand and strengthen federal law for those of all ages with disabilities. We work with families and advocacy organizations to promote the adoption of laws in Wisconsin and in Washington, D.C. that benefit individuals who may need family and public assistance to achieve their full potential for independence and wellbeing.
