National Health Care Decisions Day

April 16 of each year is designated as Health Care Decisions Day, to encourage all adults to sign or review their health care advance directives.  With advance directives, you can designate someone to speak for you, if you become unable to express your wishes.  Also, you may want to put in writing your particular wishes about your health care, treatment decisions, and end-of-life care.

We encourage everyone over the age of 18 to have health care powers of attorney and other advance directives.  From April 8-25, 2025, the State Bar offers this guide for free: A Gift to Your Family: Planning Ahead for Future Heath Needs, to help you plan and prepare advance directives.

In addition, the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA) has prepared a short guide to understand options for advance directive, and Johnson Teigen, LLC offers the guide, Making Your Wishes Known, to help you with all aspects of planning advance directives and related health care documents.

Advance directives are an important part of an individual’s personal and estate plan.  Contact one of the attorneys at Johnson Teigen to develop your plan today.
