National Consumer Protection Week
Financial exploitation comes in many forms–scams, abuse of trust, even outright stealing. Prevention is often easier than addressing exploitation after it happens, so we promote awareness and advance planning whenever possible.
Johnson Teigen joins the Federal Trade Commission in observing March 6-12 as National Consumer Protection Week, to provide suggestions and resources for understanding consumer rights and avoiding scams. Furthermore, Johnson Teigen attorney Mark T. Johnson co-authored an article for the Wisconsin Lawyer that highlights legal options for protecting against financial exploitation. The article also includes a list of resources for Wisconsin consumers (see “Resources Mentioned in This Article”).
Financial scams or exploitation can happen to anyone, regardless of age, abilities, and personal circumstances. Planning with personalized legal documents, like powers of attorney and trusts, can cover many aspects of financial protection and peace of mind.
